Onward to Wireless Field Day 6

So it’s time for Wireless Field Day 6, and I don’t think I finished a quarter of the blogs I wanted to write for WFD5.  Most of you know that I have been head down studying for my CCIE-W which escaped me for the second time earlier this month.  That has eaten up a bunch of my blogging time, but no excuses, I will find more time to talk about the WFD vendors this time around.

For the Vendors, it’s a pretty exciting mix.  Extreme Networks is the new kid on the block this time from networking vendor perspective.  I don’t know that I have actually seen any of there wireless gear in my corner of the world, so it will be good to hear what their story is. I hear they are a SCA, maybe they can help the delegates see the light.   Cloudpath is another newcomer, but we’ve seen some of their kit before, although branded for another vendors onboarding solution.  I’ve been bringing up there product more and more in discussions with customers as a separation of wireless infrastructure an onboarding.
This will also be my first face-to-face with Aruba, which has me pretty excited to see what they have to talk about.  I’ve watched every Aruba presentation from TechFieldDay and am interested to see what they have in store.  With a new version of Clearpass out, I’m sure that will be a topic of discussion.  Aside from the sparring I’ve done with their marketing folks on Twitter, I do have a lot of respect for the gear that they put out.
AirTight and Xirrus are a couple of repeats from last time, although I felt that we didn’t have enough time to explore the solutions they have to offer, so round 2 promises to be enjoyable as we dig deeper into their solutions.
Also very interested to hear about the work Disaster Tech Lab is doing around the world.
But I always look forward to just spending time with the other delegates, vendor personnel  and the Gestalt IT folks . There will be lots of nerdy wifi talk, “Big Deal” jokes and good times to be had by all.  Someday they will write stories about these adventures, probably something titled “The Great Balloon Heist.”
